When I was a kid we could see the eruption of Mount St Helens from our neighborhood. That date, May 18th, 1980 is one I always remember. This isn’t supposed to be that eruption but I wanted to capture the strange power and force of a rising volcanic eruption.
Real power in this piece. It reminds me of when I had a studio overlooking Mt Tom in the Pioneer Valley. I looked out my window and saw a funnel cloud skipping along, heading away from me and toward where I lived. I grabbed some paper and started drawing, then switched over to some monoprints of it, what else but to make the most of the the opportunity?
