I have finished two more paintings recently. These are continuations of a theme I started last spring. That theme is essentially a study in atmosphere and emptiness in landscape painting.
Both paintings are acrylic paint on plexiglass. “Cloud and Sea” is 20″ x 20″ and Water’s Lullaby is 18″ x 18″. I think the cloud painting is the most successful, it has a moody ethereal felling that I like. Which painting do you prefer and why?
More and more I want to reduce my imagery down to a minimal form and allow the paint to be the subtle star of the show. If only I didn’t have to work a day job! But the isolating night is a pretty ideal setting for this type of imagery… the trick is staying motivated and awake.
Both of these are very beautiful, though I have to say I like the second one better. It has something very clean to it which I like and I also really like bluey green colours. Good work.

These are two very different mediums which I like and at which you’re very good, so sorry but I can’t choose I love both 🙂

I actually like the sea more but that doesn’t mean the sky is not absolutely beautiful! Both of them are so nice, I’m drooling looking at them – so gorgeous. Your very good at creating a mood in images too 🙂

Thanks for the response, I think the water is probably the starker more compelling image. I thought that as I typed the contrary! I think I am just fatigued regarding the water paintings I have done.

Yeah that sounds right. I’m feeling fatigued with all the eyes I draw 🙂

Though both the paintings are beautiful, I love the water one. It has great movement and depth and mystery (?). It draws you in.

Brian,
I am profoundly drawn to the images together. There is something about the soft contrasts of texture and nuance of mood that is exquisite. I have kept the image open on my computer for weeks. So moving.

The cloud! Stunning. How do you achieve that blurred, dream-like quality?

Thank you! I scrape thin paint, blending on the surface. Sometimes it works out!
