I just finished this little acrylic painting. Simple and delicate with a little mystery… those are my frequent goals. I used to labor away with detail but now I am much more interested in gesture and mood.

Your work is just gorgeous, Brian — as you say, with a bit of mystery. Some of the greatest works, from Rodin’s sculptures to Hitcock’s films, leave the details to the viewer’s imagination. I think that’s part of what makes your paintings so evocative (apart from your stunning sense of balance and composition): Your art invites the viewer to *participate* in “finishing” the painting, so there’s an emotional investment that goes beyond the colors and elements in your frames.

Very kind of you! A balance of mystery and beauty is a seemingly simple mantra but elusive.
