Small works (ready for the show)

I have been busily preparing work for my upcoming show. I decided to bring some smaller paintings with some of my larger work to this exhibit. These twelve paintings are all 10″x10″ in size, they were all painted over a seven month period. Signing varnishing and adding hangers all takes time but it is part of the deal.

Western Shadows: New Show

Crossroads May17 posterI have a new solo show coming up the month of May in Baker City, Oregon. The exhibit will be at “Crossroads Carnegie Art Center”, coming pretty fast on the heels of my last show which is a little stressful.

I am looking forward to the road trip and a bit of adventure so I’ll have to put my paints aside and break out the jibber jabber (I only have so many words). Looking at this poster I’m also remembering I need new tires pretty soon.

Sense of Scale

I am continuing my work on large pieces, at least for me. These atmospheric paintings are 24″x24″. I have a backlog of paintings I have been wanting to work on… not enough time it seems.

With the snow piling up outside I am getting distracted by the stark bright landscapes that surround me… I will probably be shifting gears soon. It has been a long time since I lived in snowy country, I am loving it so far!

24″x24″acrylic painting

I so enjoyed the quick results from the smaller paintings I have been doing. They lived or died and the truth was apparent as quickly as I could grasp it… after that lag it was done.

This is another 24″x24″ painting.  A surface that seems both expansive and modest. Still enjoying the freedom of motion but the scale doesn’t have the presence I would really appreciate.

Open Spaces

A collection of four recent paintings. These are all 16″x16″ acrylic paintings on plexiglass. I have just switched over to a 24″ format and plan on painting a number of 36″ pieces as well. Ramping up for a show in January which no longer sounds very far off!

Delicate Light

Continuing in with my small studies. I have now moved my painting location from a shed (torn down) to a crazily dark and often cold attic space. This is a 10″x10″ acrylic painting I recently painted by dim light. I need to move onto to much larger paintings for a show I have early next year… I have also introduced more lamps and a small heater so hoping I can get a lot done above the house!
