Here is a collection of 10’x10′ studies I have painted this week. Lake Pend Oreille is frozen along much of it’s shoreline reluctantly giving up the ice to March. Giant clouds roll across the landscape in a constant dramatic shift. Photos don’t seem to do the beauty justice and my paintings barely hint at the spectacle…. we do what we can.

Looking up

Clouds are endlessly fascinating to me, particularly when there is a bit of blue Sky visible! These three paintings are 10″x10″ cloud studies I recently finished. I am hoping to paint some large cinematic skies I the coming months, I will do a lot of small studies first!

Artist Reception
Last night was the artist reception for my show “The Beauty of Nothing”. It is a solo show at Lewis-Clark State college running through March 18th.
It was fun seeing so many of my paintings sharing the walls. I have 80 paintings on display. The gallery is gigantic so I was hoping I had enough work, luckily it seemed to be just right. The space is a historic brick building in downtown Lewiston Washington.
I met a lot of great people at the opening. It was really fun meeting one of my Instagram friends, Aaron Johnson. He is a talented landscape painter living in the area. He also teaches art classes at Lewis-Clark state college. His paintings document the beauty of the Palouse, a unique and beautiful area. I went to college at Washington State University which is in the heart of this Palouse country.
I will be back to close out the show and also teach a workshop on March 18th!

Six large paintings that are part of the collection I packed off to the Lewis-Clark State College. These are each 24″x24″.
Now that the chaos of show prep is behind me I am scaling back the size of my works again. More experimentations!
