I am continuing to paint waves and water. This painting is a 10″x10″ acrylic piece. I plan on working on some larger paintings again at some point but space limitations are still keeping things small in scale!

North Wind
This is a 10″x10″acrylic painting inspired by swimming in the lake. Water is mesmerizing, trying to echo those patterns puts me into a calm place.
Dusk
This is is another small (6″x6″) acrylic painting. Playing with enigmatic atmosphere.
Yesterday evening I was driving through Spokane Washington. There are some terrible fires burning north of the city. Huge fires seem to be getting more common, and so terrible. I have to say the sunlight shining through the smoke was amazingly beautiful. I am sure this will influence some new works.
Four Small Studies
Four very small pieces, 6″ x 6″, acrylic paintings. Continuing on with smaller art due to work space limitations. I am planning on doing some 10″ pieces next as these little guys don’t allow for room to roam.
Studies in Gloom
I currently find myself without a good place to paint. Moving has left things tucked away in boxes and even the garage has no room to roam.
As a result I am choosing to do some smaller works. It is also an opportunity to experiment with similar themes but explore technique and look for unique qualities I find intriguing. BTW this is making me sound like a real optimist, I think when it comes to painting it might be the one place I really feel that way. There is endless potential even if the work disappoints there is still that next piece that might find the magic.
So much typing, it’s like I’m really a blogger! Anyway let me know your thoughts and bare with me in the near future with my small paintings and big hope (yuck).
Wave Studies
I have completed a couple of small sketchy wave studies in acrylic paint. I am planning on doing a fairly extensive waterscape/landscape series and these were just quick little works to try a few things out.

Oh Dear
Another skull painting, this one is 10″ x 10″ acrylic. This was based on a skull I have drug around with me for many decades. I released it to the forest when I was moving along with so many of my oddities and unused items that have accumulated over my life. I thought it fitting to do a final painting of it in the style I have been developing in recent months.
The acrylics are treated boldly with immediate mark making decisions. Trying to embrace the beauty of the paint letting the subject work as a framework for the color and gesture.
Where to go now? I am currently studying the nature out my back door and planning on treating it as an inspiration more than a direct subject. I am sure I will inevitably simply paint the landscapes that surround me but much like the use of paint I strive for something more. I think it is also important to work as much as possible without getting to “in my head” about what’s next. Forgive the ramblings, the middle of the night and terrible back pain leaves me thinking and far from doing.
Monkey
This is a 10″x10″ monkey skull painting in acrylic. I’ve always thought skulls are interesting. The similarities between human and monkey skulls adds an extra bit of creepiness.
Schweitzer Mountain
I am finally living in North Idaho. Not really moved in and there are a lot of giant loose ends but I’m catching the tail end of summer!
My sister and her family came out for my first official week here. We took a really fun outing up Schweitzer Mountain. We road the chair lift up to the 6,400 foot summit then hiked down 2.5 miles (2,440 feet elevation change) to the ski village. It was a breathtaking vista and a beautiful sunny day. We carried to go cup drinks up the chair lift and snacked on mountain huckleberries most of the way down the mountain.
