I put some time into painting last night and decided to paint a fairly frantic cloudscape. This painting is 16″x16″, I like the energy and color blending with this piece… hard to achieve on a larger format. It felt like a little glimpse of something new which is always exciting! Always trying to capture an immediacy and simple quality that is very tricky.
I am continuing my work on large pieces, at least for me. These atmospheric paintings are 24″x24″. I have a backlog of paintings I have been wanting to work on… not enough time it seems.
With the snow piling up outside I am getting distracted by the stark bright landscapes that surround me… I will probably be shifting gears soon. It has been a long time since I lived in snowy country, I am loving it so far!

A collection of four recent paintings. These are all 16″x16″ acrylic paintings on plexiglass. I have just switched over to a 24″ format and plan on painting a number of 36″ pieces as well. Ramping up for a show in January which no longer sounds very far off!

This little painting came together quickly and had a bit of magic in my mind. It is another 10″x10″ acrylic painting.
Now that I have been painting in the attic for a bit I have it somewhat organized. I am going to paint a half dozen more pieces this size and then move up to some larger works finally!

This is is another small (6″x6″) acrylic painting. Playing with enigmatic atmosphere.
Yesterday evening I was driving through Spokane Washington. There are some terrible fires burning north of the city. Huge fires seem to be getting more common, and so terrible. I have to say the sunlight shining through the smoke was amazingly beautiful. I am sure this will influence some new works.

This is a 10″x10″ acrylic painting I recently finished. Clouds are endlessly fascinating to me.

I am growing fond of working on paintings that are 16″x16″, a great size. It allows you enough room for brush freedom and loose work while being small enough that it is easy to manage.
This painting is still a work in progress.
