Artist Reception
Last night was the artist reception for my show “The Beauty of Nothing”. It is a solo show at Lewis-Clark State college running through March 18th.
It was fun seeing so many of my paintings sharing the walls. I have 80 paintings on display. The gallery is gigantic so I was hoping I had enough work, luckily it seemed to be just right. The space is a historic brick building in downtown Lewiston Washington.
I met a lot of great people at the opening. It was really fun meeting one of my Instagram friends, Aaron Johnson. He is a talented landscape painter living in the area. He also teaches art classes at Lewis-Clark state college. His paintings document the beauty of the Palouse, a unique and beautiful area. I went to college at Washington State University which is in the heart of this Palouse country.
I will be back to close out the show and also teach a workshop on March 18th!
Frozen water
Openings of water are appearing on the frozen lake. They look like rivers and ponds forming in the icy field. I have been inspired to use the imagery as a jumping off point for some small paintings. These are 10″x10″ open acrylic paintings.
Clark Fork Country
This is a larger painting than I have been doing recently, it is 36″x36″. I enjoy large works but in a tight space it is difficult to deal with. I will come back to more large pieces when I have a better studio situation!
This one is being packed up for an art show I am having down in Lewiston Idaho at Lewis-Clark State College.
December Shore
Well it is winter, this painting was inspired by the snowy country in which I live. The painting is a 24″x24″ acrylic painting on plexiglass panel.
Edges I & II
These 24″x24″ acrylic paintings have just been finished up. Technically I still have to sign and varnish but the images themselves are complete. These were inspired by the time just before the snow arrived!

This is a series of three paintings I am calling “New Tides I, II, & III”. These paintings are 24″x 24″ acrylic paintings. More large work for my upcoming show in January!
Shimmer
24″x24″acrylic painting
I so enjoyed the quick results from the smaller paintings I have been doing. They lived or died and the truth was apparent as quickly as I could grasp it… after that lag it was done.
This is another 24″x24″ painting. A surface that seems both expansive and modest. Still enjoying the freedom of motion but the scale doesn’t have the presence I would really appreciate.
Shine
I am finally getting to some 24″x24″ paintings. There is a lot more freedom with all that space!
Continuing on with desolate landscapes and waterscapes. I have decided to call my January show “The Beauty of Nothing”, seems to sum it all up nicely.
Open Spaces
A collection of four recent paintings. These are all 16″x16″ acrylic paintings on plexiglass. I have just switched over to a 24″ format and plan on painting a number of 36″ pieces as well. Ramping up for a show in January which no longer sounds very far off!
