Water Works

June 4, 2019 by Brian Sostrom, posted in Uncategorized

I am fickle about the tools and brushes I use. They generally have to get heavily broken in before I like them much. This new brush though has made It into constant rotation and I recommend it. It is a No. 12 Qualita FLAT By Creative Mark.

North… to Alaska

Alaskan Expanse 16”x12” acrylic

I am not going back to alaska anytime soon, sadly. This painting is a commission I am finalizing, inspired by Alaska. I would love to get back up there again!

Parliament

May 3, 2019 by Brian Sostrom, posted in Uncategorized

8” diameter acrylic

That’s right, a group of owls is called a parliament. I had to look it up, such a distinguished and appropriate title. Now they are generally solitary birds so this is pretty worthless trivia, still must remember!

Chasing Shadows

Human Chain 24”x24” acrylic

Another unusual painting in my Apocalyptic Bloom series. This is an ongoing collection of paintings I am creating for no discernible reason… that’s really how it ought to be!

Into Blue 20”x16” acrylic

Actually the sun is shining like crazy today. Spring has really come to North Idaho and I am thrilled! My studio on the other hand is collecting apocalyptic paintings.

Solitary Sign 24”x24” acrylic

My newest painting in an ongoing series I call Apocalyptic Bloom. I have been trying to build a collection of these works but have sold off a few. Putting together and intriguing show.

Changes

Changes Come 20”x20” acrylic

Another moody storm piece. I love trying to capture that sense of epic power.

I picked up a bunch of new boards to paint on. Always excited when I have so many surfaces ready!

Floating or Falling

March 7, 2019 by Brian Sostrom, posted in Uncategorized

Three 24″x24″ paintings on the studio counter. Sometimes it is good just to start painting… no clear destination. These cloudscape paintings were freeing to paint. I am not sure if I will keep these but it doesn’t really matter.

Hidden Sun

Floating 16”x12” paint on wood panel

I painted this over the weekend, just a final glaze this morning.

I am doing a little series of cloudscapes with the sun concealed but still very present.
