Another moody storm piece. I love trying to capture that sense of epic power.
I picked up a bunch of new boards to paint on. Always excited when I have so many surfaces ready!

I have been recycling painting panels lately. Finding old paintings, removing the paint and starting new work. I dug this one out, always drawn to something about it. I put a few hours into it yesterday. Now it will live to fight another day, like me.

I had a little commission painting this week. It was fun trying to create the magical feel of the aurora borealis.
The client is excited. Now I just need to varnish and sign the painting… and wait for the frame to show up!

I thought I would share a WIP on this Friday morning. The smooth sparkle of the water is feeling pretty good here.

The winter arrived late but with serious intent. Mornings dream like with mist lifting from the waves and through the forest. The water revealed as the color of dawn warms the sky if not the air.

I have been working steadily on some powerful storm imagery. This particular piece is one of my favorites.
I did not have specific plans for these, just driven to create them. Horizon Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, wanted them. They ended up selling this one before I could get it varnished. So Messenger, will be shipping directly to California. The other three will heading to Wyoming. I will post images of them all when they leave North Idaho.

I have been working on very moody paintings. It is the kind of work I love.
To mix things up I thought I would try to capture the brilliance of some of our recent sunsets. They seem especially dramatic after a gloomy day. The clouds lifting to an explosion of light.

In North Idaho winter is a very real season. I love to be in the studio working this time of year! I don’t feel guilty about being inside, and it’s such a beautiful view. I decided to capture a little of the winter feel in these small paintings. I will probably do a couple larger paintings on the theme soon.

I hope everyone is staying warm!

I realized I am neglecting the beauty of the season. Frequently we have grey winter skies in North Idaho. The bright snow and steely water. It has an undeniable beauty even on the darkest days.

I am not moving to Australia but these two paintings are! Yesterday afternoon I shipped them off so they have a long voyage ahead.
I have only been to Australia once, many years ago. I went to Sydney which is where these works are going. It is such a beautiful city. I wouldn’t mind taking a trip to Australia now to escape the winter. One of these years I will have to get back!
