Wrapping up this commission. A painting of Lake Pend Oreille from a different vantage. I drove over to the owner’s property a number of times before starting a concept and ultimately this final painting. Always a pleasure to paint this like I love so much.
I just sold this painting to a collector in Wyoming. The painting was inspired by a short drive to Montana. Happy to live in this part of the world. Buyer was through Horizon Fine Art Gallery.
Two small paintings are headed off to Abend Gallery in Denver, Colorado. I seem to be shipping a lot of little art their way lately. Come August I will have my huge solo show at Abend… excited but so much to do!
Last weekend we took a little road trip to the Kootenai National wildlife refuge. We didn’t arrive until the evening but the lighting and views were magnificent! The main loop drive was closed for the winter, but worth the trek regardless!
I have done a few little winter scenes inspired by the evening. I hope to paint a larger image next.
Under the Sun is a 16″x20″ acrylic/open acrylic painting on cradled birch.
I love clouds, of course they are best when they don’t obscure all of the blue! This painting is the second one inspired by the transitions of season. Snow rapidly disappearing from the mountains, so fast it caused substantial flooding in North Idaho. The diminishing snow adds so much character to the faded mountains, particularly when the sky is filled with clouds and mist. It creates a kind of ghostly magical quality that is so subtle but so inspiring.
