This summer I am busy working on some smaller paintings. Trying to find a balance of summer fun with family and friends and my studio obsession. Small works are a great way to explore ideas, the best ones will inspire larger paintings in the future.

I love the moody storms that blow across Lake Pend Oreille, particularly in the summer. The clear blue sky overtaken by huge ominous clouds. Hope for rain and worry about the lightning. It’s all a huge inspiration to my work, the reason I moved here so many years ago.

As a bit of a reset I am currently painting some small boards ranging from the size of this painting to 12” x 16”. Once I have a bit of a collection I will switch back to larger format painting. Small paintings are a nice way to investigate ideas and techniques a bit more quickly. More to come!

Newly finished piece, this painting was a commission arranged by Radius Gallery in Missoula, Montana. I also had the pleasure of meeting the new owners!

Another look at this autumnal painting, available through Momentum Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina.

I signed this painting in 2023. It never felt complete so I spent a couple days this week working on it. Now it is varnished and soon it will be framed and shipped to Momentum Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina!

This painting is on its way to Asheville, North Carolina. One of twenty paintings in my upcoming solo show opening May 9th at Momentum Gallery.

The big star in our sky is always captivating. It seems I can’t watch enough sunrises or sunsets.
Painting some new work on these large 24” x 24”, cradled wood panels. I have a few more primed, keep your eyes peeled.

My newest nocturne painting in the studio. This is the third painting in this series on 18” cradled wood panels.

I am always dreaming of a better future. What we all have is today, I will spend it painting.
