I had this deep cradled board in my studio for years and never used it. I found it recently when I was trying, once again, to clean the studio. It was really fun to work on such a vertical piece! The dimensions are 12″x24″.

Rainbow
I don’t think I have ever painted rainbows before. Such a blatantly beautiful visual to behold it always felt like too much. But here are a couple I painted this week! I will resist the urge to use this as a gateway to unicorns, probably.

Be Still

One of the last paintings I finished for the show at the Pendleton Center for the Arts. It is a 20″x16″ acrylic/open acrylic painting.

Pendleton Center for the Arts
I just had my show opening in Pendleton, Oregon. It is an honor to have my paintings displayed in such a beautiful historic building! A really great art community is flourishing here, the Pendleton Center for the Arts is at the heart.

Pendleton is famous for the big rodeo in September and of course the great Pendleton wool clothing and blankets. We took a number of tours in town and found it has some really intriguing history with an underground that is pretty fascinating. So if you you find yourself in that part of the country it is well worth a visit. Plenty of great restaurants, brewpubs and a wonderful new distillery! If you can make it before the end of August you can also see my show at the beautiful Art Center!

Solitude

This painting is part of my “Transitions” show currently on exhibit at McVarish Gallery in Astoria, Oregon.
The atmosphere of this particular painting is really delicate. The shoreline a haunted edge barely existing along the expansive water. I am always striving to capture the sense of beauty I see with subtle mark making and simple gestures. It is such a difficult thing to do but when it works it feels like magic!
Heavy Morning 14”x14”

I sold this painting last fall. I had painted it on an especially sad day. I embraced the sorrow I felt during another dark milepost and made something worthwhile. I have always liked moody imagery and this one was a standout.
Day Transitions 20”x16”

Another painting from the show I am having in Astoria, Oregon at the McVarish Gallery. The exhibition runs until July 12th so if you are in the area, give it a look!
“Transitions” solo show opening

My solo show opened last night at the McVarish Gallery in Astoria, Oregon. I was excited to have my parents attend one of my shows, along with my Aunt and Uncle! A lot of great people showed up and made the evening fun and kept me talking. Here is a collection of photos from the evening.

Throwback Thursday

I know it’s silly but what the heck! These acrylic paintings now reside in Hong Kong, I have sent a surprising amount of work to different folks there… I should be getting better at geography. My art has seen much more of the world than I have… though I have done some traveling!
Under the Sun

I love clouds, of course they are best when they don’t obscure all of the blue! This painting is the second one inspired by the transitions of season. Snow rapidly disappearing from the mountains, so fast it caused substantial flooding in North Idaho. The diminishing snow adds so much character to the faded mountains, particularly when the sky is filled with clouds and mist. It creates a kind of ghostly magical quality that is so subtle but so inspiring.
