I have some really large storage drawers in my studio. I have found the are not only great for storage but a great way to protect drying artwork.

Beginnings

This is another 24″x24″ painting I very recently completed as part of a commission.
Bold lighting elements and soft moody atmospheric work is seemingly simple but is very challenging to paint with acrylic and open acrylic paint.
I am drawn to enigmatic imagery and though this subject is straight forward it still has a bit of mystery…. that’s what it’s all about for me.
Commissions

Gathering up some paintings in my studio that were commissions. I painted four 24″x24″ paintings for a great family that has a house on Lake Pend Oreille. Painting these was a real pleasure knowing they would be hanging lakeside on this beautiful North Idaho lake.
I will be posting more images of the four paintings along with two additional paintings very soon!
Three recent works…

Three atmospheric paintings recently completed. Experimenting with a combination of acrylic and oil paint. I am attaching a video sequence as well, the image loses something in translation.
Hidden Moon (moonlight studies)

Moonlight is mesmerizing, it’s not news that it has a romantic feel but there is something so hypnotic about a big moon casting shadows and lighting up the darkness with such interesting and subtle colors. I have done very few moon paintings but it is something I always mean to put time into.
This weekend I was working on some atmospheric cloudscapes, nothing unusual for me. I was also unpacking boxes in my new studio space, more on that at a later date. I found some small boards that I had readied for painting at least a year ago and packed away. So I decided to play around with some nocturnal imagery. Ultimately I want to do some really good sized paintings but for now it is nice to get some forward progress into the night.
Workshop
The color of winter
Here is a collection of 10’x10′ studies I have painted this week. Lake Pend Oreille is frozen along much of it’s shoreline reluctantly giving up the ice to March. Giant clouds roll across the landscape in a constant dramatic shift. Photos don’t seem to do the beauty justice and my paintings barely hint at the spectacle…. we do what we can.
The Beauty of Nothing

My show is opening at Lewis-Clark State College! This one is fairly long, running until March 18th. There is an artist reception February 3rd and I will be teaching a class on March 18t.
Clark Fork Country

This is a larger painting than I have been doing recently, it is 36″x36″. I enjoy large works but in a tight space it is difficult to deal with. I will come back to more large pieces when I have a better studio situation!
This one is being packed up for an art show I am having down in Lewiston Idaho at Lewis-Clark State College.
