This is a portion of my work currently on display at the McVarish Gallery in Astoria, Oregon. The show will be up for just two more weeks, then prepping for a show in Pendleton, Oregon. I am pretty proud of this particular exhibit. A great deal of work goes into each art show so it is a little sad when they end! I am also excited to announce that I will be having another solo show at the McVarish Gallery summer of 2019!

This last week was a good week for me. I mailed off 8 paintings. Work sent to Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Germany!

Selling work through my website and Instagram account (@bsostrom) is fun and satisfying. As an independent artist I am taking on all the promotional responsibility along with negotiating, packing and shipping. Ideally I would just like to spend my time painting but nothing is that simplistic and as an artist you have to hustle and scramble to make ends meet.

Thanks you for your support and interest!

I have been working on some smaller paintings as a little break. I just finished this 12″x9″ painting very early this morning.

This 24″x18″ painting is currently at the BPA on Bainbridge Island. Forgive the black bars at the top and bottom!
This is the first painting I have finished on dibondi aluminum panel. I primed the surface and painted as I normally would. I mounted d-ring hangers on the back and it worked really well! I have been trying to find a way to make my work more transportable for mailing and hauling around to art exhibitions. This seems to work really well and will also be helpful for storage. These paintings can be hung without a frame but would work well with a traditional frame as well.

I have returned again to an old theme… the isolated chair. I am trying to put together some small works for a show at a little gallery in Idaho. I have a few big solo shows coming up soon so my time has been very tight… not to mention that pesky day job that had been keeping the lights on…
This painting is 12”x12”, some interesting results that I will keep in my mind for future work. I ended up selling this painting first thing this morning so now I need another piece for the previously mentioned show.
It is good to be painting.

This is a 14”x11” acrylic painting. There is an intriguing quality to the slick silvery body of a trout, it makes for a compelling subject. They are one of the creatures that live in that big body of water I have become fairly obsessed with so it is nice to pay tribute to the mighty rainbow trout.
It is hard to say goodbye to Summer. The Fall is here and the sun still so warm and bright but like all things it is transition. Winter waiting patiently with it’s cold dark promise.
This is a 16″x16″ acrylic painting I just finished. This painting has a subtle intriguing beauty that doesn’t really translate well in photographic form… some transitions are tricky.
